Dorothy L. Kress

Age 88, of Oakmont, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Dorothy was born into a large close family in Squirrel Hill and lived there until she was kidnapped and taken into the wilds of New Kensington by her husband, Aaron, who preceded her in death three years ago.

Dorothy was a graduate of Allderdice High School and Oberlin College, where she studied art and met Pete Seeger a few times. Dorothy worked in book design in NYC for a short time, but she came back to Pittsburgh and we are all thankful for that because that’s when she met Aaron after he finished law school and they were married soon thereafter.

Dorothy and Aaron settled into New Kensington in 1962 and raised a family there. Dorothy taught in New Kensington and then Freeport while Aaron built his law practice. She was an active member of Beth Jacob Synagogue and taught Sunday school. She also volunteered at People’s Library, Project SEED, Easter Seals, and led a Brownie Troop. She was ahead of her time in being an advocate for inclusiveness and literacy with her work with children with disabilities and bringing Catholic and Jewish students together to learn about each other’s religions.

Dorothy was an artist and she instilled that creativity into her children and her grandchildren. Any random neighborhood kid who wandered into their home often had a paintbrush or ball of clay thrust into their hands.

With Aaron, Dorothy traveled the world. They biked, skied, and played tennis. Ever the artist, Dorothy took watercolor classes and photography classes. But mostly, Dorothy loved her children and grandchildren in extraordinary measure. She was never afraid to get on the floor or in the snow and reveled in playing make-believe with them for hours on end.

Mom was preceded in death by Aaron and her parents, Liv and Bernard Langer. She is survived by her brother, James Langer (Elinor), daughters, Becky (Phil) Fenoglietto and Margaret (Brian) Carlson; four grandchildren, Lew (Ally) Fenoglietto, Chris Fenoglietto, Emily Carlson, and Ben Carlson; three bonus grandchildren, Jessica, Kaylin, and Abby Kostic, and two great-granddaughters, Macy and Madeline Fenoglietto. She is also survived by a ton of cousins, most notably, Ellie Siegal.

She was loved and cherished by her tennis and book club friends who kept her going even when they stopped playing tennis and just met for lunch.

A Celebration of Life to honor both Dorothy and Aaron will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to People’s Library, 880 Barnes St., New Kensington, PA 15068, KNEAD Café, 1011 Barnes St., New Kensington, PA 15068, or Project SEED, c/o Alle-Kiski Valley Senior Citizens Center, 1039 3rd Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068. The family would like to thank Linda Venanzio and all of the caretakers at Longwood at Oakmont who gave her such loving care. Arrangements by William F. Gross Funeral Home, Ltd.

Shawn approached life with an enthusiasm, particularly for his lifelong passions:

Cars: A true gearhead, Shawn found joy in nice vehicles.  Whether he was attending car shows or simply talking about his favorite models, his love for all things automotive was infectious.

Sports: An avid sports fan, Shawn could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Penguins, the Steelers, and—believe it or not – even the Pirates.  He never missed a game.  A talented athlete, Shawn played and supported a variety of sports including baseball, softball, hockey, and pool.

Labrador Retrievers : Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than his beloved Labrador Retriever dogs, especially his Chocolates.  They were his constant companions, and he treated them with boundless affection.  Their unconditional love was a deep source of comfort and joy throughout his life.

One of Shawn's most defining qualities was his loyalty. He maintained deep, meaningful bonds with a group of lifelong childhood friends.  These friendships were a source of immeasurable strength and happiness, filled with decades of shared memories, unwavering support, and countless laughs.  His friends will remember him as the one who was always ready with a helping hand, a quick wit, and a truly genuine heart.

Carol was dedicated mother and grandmother above all. She would be a stay-at-home mother for 15 years before being hired to become the Office Manager at Laurel Tag & Label by her future husband, George. They ran a successful business for 15 years together before she retired at age 50 and then married her best friend, George. They moved to Nokomis FL and spent 8 wonderful years together boating, travelling, and enjoying the Florida retired life. Carol loved to give, so she became a member of the Venice Garden Club and Venice Sail and Power Squadron where she held the title of Secretary.

Carol will be remembered by many for being so kind, caring, and appreciative. She graduated from Seneca High School of Penn Hills in 1956 where she met her first love Mike Russo and became a proud mother of 3 children that she raised in Plum Borough.

She was a woman who had health challenges her entire life after having rheumatic fever as a child, but you never knew it because of her strength and love for life. She loved to host parties and holidays like no other. Everything was always done to perfection because she wanted everyone to feel special. Carol loved to sew, crochet, doing ceramics, but most of all she loved to cook and share recipes. She was known for many of her recipes, but there wasn't a birthday, holiday or weekend party without her famous Broccoli Casserole, Potato Salad, or Signature Sangria.

Ronald A Duff

aka… King Zoli – Zolighost – Dr. Roof

Zoli died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, October 21, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Eleanor Duff, as well as his two younger brothers, Jerry and Doug. To his friends, he was known as Zoli, to customers: Dr. Roof, and to his family: always just Ronnie. He acquired these monikers through his creative thought processes to render himself unforgettable! His sense of humor was always at work.

Ron is survived by his son, Luke (Debbie) Duff, granddaughters Julianna Duff and Callie Duff, sisters Sherry (Jeff) Conrad and Cynthia M Clemons (Cyn Duff), niece Jennifer (Will) DeSantis, nephews Doug (Melissa) Duff, William Duff, and great niece and nephews: Willie, Bella, Max, Brody, and Liam.

Zoli loved a good work day, rising early and meeting the guys at Eat-n-Park or other breakfast venues in the area. He liked to finish early, nap and head to dinner with family.

A passion for travel was developed and encouraged by his parents at an early age. The beach was always a favorite and remained high on the destination list. He wandered the world following high school and immersed himself in various cultures, making friends along the way – many with whom he was still in contact with for years.

Zoli was a self-taught musician. He played various instruments including guitar, piano, organ, harmonica, ukulele, and accordion. In addition, he was a prolific song writer: even producing a jingle for his favorite restaurant. He constantly had a song in his head – which many times we begged him to stop singing!

Reading was another favorite pastime. He was into biographies about the greatest leaders in world history and U.S. Presidents. His interests also included the various tribes of American Indians, National Parks, Political leaders, and world wars. He loved a good debate and looked forward to opposing your opinion.

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, comedy and laughter, as well as a very long line of vehicles he managed to run into the ground! He displayed a willingness to help others, especially those down on their luck. Friends describe him as extraordinary, unique, creative, one of a kind, remarkable, unusual, imaginative, inventive, original, resourceful, and inspiring. We Agree!

Zoli will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. He regularly beamed with pride for his granddaughters, and with obvious pride and love for his only son, Luke. He demonstrated love and affection for his family on a daily basis. It’s hard to wrap our heads around the fact that he’s just not here!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to your favorite charity.

A memorial service will be held at William F. Gross Funeral Home, 11735 Frankstown Road (at Rodi Road) Penn Hills, 15235 from 1:00-4:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, where his family and friends will gather to share memories and experiences.
